Time tracking & business insights

What’s new in Yanomo – 2017 edition

As a regular user, you may not always notice it, but we’re continuously improving Yanomo with big and small features. Did you know we do over 50 releases per year, mostly in the weekends? Without further ado, here’s a comprehensive list of new features and fixes added to Yanomo in 2017 so far.

1. Tagging of time entries and projects

You have always been able to slice and dice your Yanomo reporting based on the common dimensions: clients, projects, dates, activities and business units. But what if your business has a dimension that isn’t covered in this standard list? What if, for example, you want to report based on the type of government grant your getting, the partners you’re working with, or whether a project is outsourced or not? Meet the new tag system, that will give admins freedom to create whatever dimensions you need to report on. You can define standardized tags to enrich both projects and time entries. Note that users can only tag their entries with what’s provided here – they can not add new tags themselves.

2. Customizable time tracking reminder emails

The key to accurate time tracking is to get your people to do it as quickly after the fact as possible – when it’s still fresh in their minds. But, as we all know: people get distracted, by both good things (deadlines, trains that have to be caught) and bad things (social media :)). Which is why we’ve introduced a customizable reminder system, to gently push people to log their time on the same day. It includes a deeplink to the relevant page and pointed info what is exactly missing. A longstanding wish of many of our dearest customers!

3. Preset and filterable expenses

Yanomo’s expenses integration has been seriously upgraded. You can now easily add your pre-set expenses – the classic case of which is the money amount per mile or KM travelled – and we’ve enabled filtering of expenses in your dashboard, which makes life much easier for our heavy users.

4. User cost tracking

Yanomo has historically been used to track your people’s time, so you can leverage this into insights and revenues. Since early this year, you’re also able to track your people’s actual cost, meaning you can understand what margin you are earning on those hours. This allows mangers to leverage Yanomo reporting to do cost-benefit analysis per user, be it a freelancer or an employee.

5. Richer reporting features

We hear you: this is an age of data and insights, and you can never have enough of it. In the past months, we’ve added preset filters on project lifetime and year to date, and added another 6 metrics and dimensions to our various reporting screens.

6. More powerful export features

As a logical followup to the point above, we’ve (again!) greatly enhanced our exporting capabilities. You can now export anything in Yanomo to PDF, and we’ve also added 12 extra metrics and dimensions that to the standard exports, including everything related to expenses. Whatever accounting tool you use, you can always customize your Yanomo CSV export to match its needs.

7. Hundreds of mini-features that you probably don’t care about but we’d like to mention anyway

From Slovenian invoice translations to the longawaited iOS app upgrade to more granular zooming of the dashboard, we added a ton of perhaps barely noticable tweaks that, collectively, make Yanomo much more powerful than it was a year ago. Naturally, we’re never done, and we’re happy to hear from you when you feel we are missing the key feature you desperately need!
